Chunky Buying
#1

What do the trading pros make of all the big, but odd quantity chunks moving today.  Never a round number; instead 1900, 2900, 3900, 5900 etc.

Yes... I saw that.  I was just sitting there, minding my own business and zoom... in a New York Second the price jumped.

I get the idea now!!!!

11:10  75,000  @75.10 (about .50 above ask)

I think the market-maker kept the price under 75 while accumulating then sold out of his book.

11:31 18,900 twice, @ 75.08 ask. Someone accumulating.

Trans, Tarules, or anyone,

What is with all the spikey daily swings. Stock is swinging .60 to a buck on low and high volume.  Thanks.

Lib is quite familiar with the daily spikes on some volume. This is usually the shorts working the stock, dropping a small block on the mkt and trying to sell it down from there. Usually its almost like a signal. But lately they can't hold it or work it down. It's a tug of war with stealth and size buyers accumulating. I felt last week we would start seeing long players entering the scene and offsetting the short activity. I think that's what is starting to go on. It also raises a question as to whether the stock has much downside at all. I am starting to feel more confident that IOC is not going to go down much from here, if at all. Decent amount of resistance in the 75-79 area, but not a whole lot from 80-99. I can't rule out a 5-6 point reaction somewhere here, but mostly see the stock moving into the 80's in the next week or so. Good consistent accumulation...hope this helps

IMO, even tho the stock is lower this am so far, the intra day charts would suggest a buyer is picking up stock. I also feel the volume is too light for 1.5 hrs in a weak overall market. Overall market is somewhat vulnerable here, but my short term strength ratings are jumping , indicating further downside may produce a short term buy trading signal. That 71.80 low may be a decent one. fwiw trans

Trans- With these weekly options expiring each Thursday, do you think they will force a close today below 72.50 ?? ( Or lower ?) . TIA

I believe they are a weekly influence on price behavior. So yes, I would say they have some infuence here today. Likely the same shorts we're dealing with. they put on 3 series of weekly puts til today ,mostly below the mkt

The weekly options actually expire on Friday.  Normal monthly options close on Saturday.
