Fortunately, the calls are tradable, regardless what we hear during the first two weeks of March...

I haven't been at Yahoo for quite some time but had a look at that list. Couple of comments:

- These quotes aren't surprising or necessarily suspect at all. Most CEO's working in the oil&gas industry will have noticed the Elk1 discovery, and especially the Antelope discovery, and these people talk to one another all the time, their world isn't that big. That other parties expressed an interest is natural and to be expected.

- There is quite a difference between expressing an interest, and concluding a multi-billion dollar deal

- InterOil was only fairly recently ready to do the latter, only when Antelope was properly appraised by other wells and third party (GLJ) and Government approval granted. This is only a couple of years. The shorts who invariably argue that IOC has promised deals for over a decade are smoking some funny stuff.

- Note also the contradiction in what they often claim: 1) IOC has promised deals for over a decade 2) Elk/Antelope isn't properly appraised. These statements can't both be right at the same time. No 'conviction' shorts here, just opportunists throwing stuff at the wall in the hope something sticks.

- To compose that list of quotes must have taken considerable time (as did other stuff like very long winded comments posted at the end of SA articles) Be aware of people exerting this much effort but claiming not to have a position.

[quote='ArtM72' pid='17667' dateline='1361731202'] "The InterOil Board of Directors intends to meet the Company’s advisors during the first week of March 2013 for the purpose of evaluating bids received and selecting our partner(s)" I don't see anything in this quote that says a selection will be made in the first week of March, only that evaluations will occur. That's pretty clear wordsmithing in my mind. If someone is predisposed to see this as a promised date then so be it. As far as the "list" on Yazoo goes the importance of the timing in my mind is far less important than the successful accomplishment of the tasks at hand. (I quit buying calls long ago) More important still is the success achieved in discovery and the incredible safety record where millions of hours have gone by since their last lost time accident. Those two issue carry far, far more weight in my book.

I agree with all your points but think you missed mine.  You reframed the discussion to be about "a deal".  That's not what it was about. The "promised date" was about the time period when the board would meet. Unless JFT is making things up, they've decided to move that back to the 11th. So they are not doing what they said they would do...again.  My point is when you've given timing guidance (per the Yazoo list that has so often failed to come through), why not learn from that, and stop doing it? it hurts credibility. It gives the shorts ammunition, and it's just plain unnecessary.  Don't give the market anything specific unless you are sure you can deliver.

And although I agree that "successful discovery" is more important than being savy and effective in the PR arena, I'd like to think it's possible to be good at both.

The IBers asked for the additional time as needed for proper DD to render an opinion. This is NOT a mattter that anyone at IOC could have foreseen. They have not done this type deal before and I think some are being hard on the company for doing what's proper in this type situation.I doubt if anyone on this board has done anything like this before. Further nothing on PNG happens exactly when promised. Cut em some slack they are working their butts off for us.
The only persons who might care are those that bought long calls expecting a POP before March option expiration. This is a but a push of a week. Who would care unless they are going to the casinos. The company has always stated don't buy IOC calls. I own deep in the money March Long calls and expect them to perform well starting with this Friday and extending into March option expiration. Yes its a bet and yes I may be wrong . Thats okay.

Fwiw, I have done this before, and got the job done in 4 months time.
Now I want to see the pps and options premiums rise.

FWIW I think that some of you are making a big deal out of nothing with when the companies announcement will come. The board will meet when the bankers are ready to present. That is not in their control. Bottom line is bids are do this Thursday. After that the company needs to make their decision. It may take a week or two but it will be done.

At this point the upward pressure on the stock will come from speculation, current investors adding to their positions and news leaking out. Downward pressure should not be substantial as the shorts do not have the power at this point because of the buying pressure. Unless the deal is bad and that leaks out, which I highly doubt.

Personally I believe we drift up to 90-100 range over the next week. However, it is irrelevant as to where it will be then as the true investors (as opposed to speculators) will hold till the end or until they believe shareholder value is maximized.
