50 Day EMA/100 Day EMA Crossover Time
#1

I alluded to this bullish crossover in a recent post. We weren't quite there at the time but we are now.  If you follow crossovers, this is one perfect chart. And if you think that big money does not pay attention and screen for the 50/100 day crossover, you would be mistaken.

TA, what is the difference between a 50/100 crossover and a 50/200 crossover?  I am assuming the 50/200 crossover is just a more bullish indicator??

Hefi,

Will try my hand at it.  the 50-day crossing the 100-day ("Golden Cross"Wink on the upswing is very bullish and lets you get in on the momentum earlier; it's actually a buy signal and tends to signal a nice ride up, then you can use the opposite (when the 50-day crosses the 100-day on the way down) as a sell/trim indicator.  Using the 200-day gets you in too late in the upswing.  If this link works it shows you IOC over the last 5 years and you can see the pattern:

Nice chart Palm. Looks like it has historically signalled a 10-40 point upward move every time but once. Puts us in the 85-115 range.

Yep, and that one time was bombshell time in Sept/Oct 2011 when the Shell/Duma thing fully hit the fan. We had just crossed over, then got blown up. Now is another time to watch as we've crossed at a crucial time that should prove out. Any "bumps" could delay the ride up a little. Not anticipating that though.
