Woodside Axes Browse Loses Top Execs

I hope they don't get hired by IOC. Execs who fail once will usually fail again. Thee failures can generally be related to narcissism.

How has he failed?   WPL's stock has outperformed the S&P by 130% since he joined.  Of course, it's not all attributable to him but he rapidly ascended the ranks from general manager of the US (in which Woodside was nonexistant) to SVP of LNG for the entire company.  By the time he resigned, he was responsible for Woodside's biggest and most important undeveloped LNG project and many believe that he was next in line to take the helm at what is now a $30 billion company.  I won't defend him further since it may be irrelevant given that he may not be InterOil's next CEO, but I'm perplexed by your comment.

I view the woodside project as a failure, 145 billion seems like a lot for an LNG plant.

Ya think E/A and all those reefs would entice Woodside's  Exploration Director to follow Hession to IOC and to work with Dave Holland and relieve him of the duties he assumed when Wayne Hamal left IOC in 2012?

Now, I really like the sound of that, Tree!

A  sign of good things to come!

This guy sounds workable as a CEO.  Browse cancellation timing and Woodside execs leaving as their project is pulled out from under them sure is coinky dinky with Phil's retirement.

Woodside loses another executive in the wake of Browse decision

WOODSIDE Petroleum has lost another of its senior managers as the fallout from its decision to axe the $45 billion-plus James Price Point liquefied natural gas development continues.

According to a copy of an internal Woodside email obtained by The Australian, Michael Hession -- the senior vice-president responsible for the Browse project -- has quit Woodside to pursue other opportunities.

Hession had been with Woodside since 1999, with his roles in the company including stints running its North African and North American exploration strategy.

His departure, less than a month after the plan to process gas from the Browse gasfields through James Price Point was abandoned, came as Woodside announced it would absorb its Browse business unit into its development division.

That move is likely to see many of the Browse personnel directed to work on Woodside's plans for an LNG plant in Israel, following the company's decision late last year to buy a 30 per cent stake in the Leviathan gasfield.

Other oil and gas companies in Perth have been eyeing Woodside as a source for personnel since the James Price Point decision was confirmed. While Woodside has no immediate plans for redundancies following the Browse decision, rival companies believe the company's lack of near-term development projects and its recent decision to substantially increase its dividend returns could encourage Woodside personnel to seek opportunities elsewhere.

Woodside chief executive Peter Coleman said in the email that Hession's decision to leave the company "was consistent with a decision he made some time ago to consider the next phase of his life when the opportunity was right".

"Michael provided outstanding leadership during a key phase of the Browse development. The work that Michael has overseen was first-class in all respects, and will be very valuable as we move to the next phase," Coleman said.

Hession's role will be filled by Steve Rogers, the current head of Woodside's Sunrise project, which is stalled in a dispute with the government of East Timor.

Santos recently recruited the Browse project's lead development geologist, Richard Osbon, to head up the company's geoscience team, which is based in Perth.

Congratulations Tree

Clearly an actualization of oppertunity and potential in InterOil.

Nice to step on to the hard stand with a beauty contest winner on your arm.

Cheers

On top of Tree being right, and full kudo's to that, consider also this. Today, Citron's Andy Left tried to minimize the importance of IOC hiring Hession by arguing that he was unemployed..

Consider that in conjunction with the little history of Andy Left (hardly a guy who should throw the first stone..)

And you arrive at a remarkable picture.

As they did with Henry Aldorf. Certain well-known posters on Yazoo jumped all over Henry when he first came aboard saying he was a washed up retiree who was begging for work.
