Unbeatable camera in next iPhone?
#1
The next-generation Apple iPhone models could bring cameras promising images closer to DSLR-quality than ever before, thanks to the Cupertino firm’s latest expensive acquisition. Apple has apparently confirmed to the Wall Street Journal it has acquired Israeli imaging firm LinX Computational, with the site claiming the purchase is in the region of $20m (around £13.5m). LinX is responsible for creating an array of camera modules and software algorithms for mobile devices which it says are “leading the way to DSLR performance in slim handsets.”

As it happens, there is some competition

Rather than hewing to this one-to-one ratio, Light aims to put a bunch of small lenses, each paired with its own image sensor, into smartphones and other gadgets. They’ll fire simultaneously when you take a photo, and software will automatically combine the images. This way, Light believes, it can fit the quality and zoom of a bulky, expensive DSLR camera into much smaller, cheaper packages—even phones.
