4:521 pm - Friday 07th September, 2012 Korean Gas firm eyes InterOil production By PETER KORUGL in INCHEON CITY The world’s biggest importer of liquefied natural gas is in talks to partner with InterOil Corporation to operate the country’s second LNG project based in the Gulf Province.  And if the discussions goes well, it could see the entry of the Korean Gas Corporation (KOGAS), a global company with experience in exploration, extraction and processing of liquefied natural gas into PNG.  Company official Park, Tae Seok told said: “We are in talks with InterOil to develop the Elk and Antelop gas reserves in Papua New Guinea. We want to be involved in both the upstream and downstream processing aspects on this project.” He said this during a guided tour of KOGAS Incheon refinery on Thursday.  Should the talks prove successful, KOGAS entry will certainly up the profile of PNG as an investment destination by a multinational corporation and a major boost for the young hydrocarbon industry.  Read more in your Weekend Courier tomorrow...

Russia and China want to be seen as Asia Pacific powers, but Japan and SK don't want to be left in the dust.

Now, why on earth of all the places on earth would Peter Korugl be in Incheon City, outside of Seoul, on a guided KOGAS tour of the KOGAS Incheon refinery???

I don't see this trip on Expedia. Wonder who else from PNG was on the tour??

I think Tusker was with him. I heard his bar bill there was twice as long as the one at the AGM. Tusker is an international ambassador of IOC good will and good times.

Must figure there was important reason to see regassification facilities and how LNG from PNG can help power SK.

I think the news is beginning to dribble out. This is likely the same "Mr. Park" who was quoted by Business Week on the subject of the KOGAS consortium a couple of months back. If I remember correctly, he said then that there might be something to announce in September. Looks like JKM is AT LEAST still interested in the deal. Probably JKM is actively bidding. JKM always made sense, just as Exxon makes sense as the operator. GO IOC!!!

Welcome Dan. Yea JKM is very much in this and with the political stabilization and the priority the project is now receiving, it's attractiveness has only increased.

I haven't seen this mentioned up until now but any thoughts on Shell partnering up with Kogas & Mitsui on IOC? Apparently it wouldn't be the first time...this could explain why RDS "hadn't seen IOC's data room"

Your link shows Shell & KOGAS with Mitsuibishi, not Mitsui.  Still, 2/3.

My thought is BOD and top bidder are worried about a buy out offer. The higher the PPS the less chance of that seeming so attractive.

Is it possible that RDS is heavily involved in options? They or someone else else could readily support a buyout with costs mitigated by heavy options contracts that would not require any sort of disclosure?
