PM holds bilateral talks with Yudhoyono
DENPASAR: Before departing Bali for Singapore on Friday (9/11/12) on his way back home, Prime Minister Peter O’Neill met with Indonesian President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the Laguna Hotel in Bali. Both leaders discussed issues of mutual concern such as working together to develop the oil, gas and electricity sectors. Mr Yudhoyono thanked Mr O’Neill for attending and participating at the 5th Bali Democracy Forum this year. He said he supported PNG’s views on increasing trade and investment with Indonesia. In commending Mr O’Neill on an outstanding speech during the Forum, Mr Yudhoyono said it would be mutually beneficial for both countries to work closely together to develop trade and investment. He said despite PNG and Indonesia enjoying cordial bilateral relations over the years, there was still room for improvement to further strengthen that relationship. Prime Minister O’Neill responded that he was privileged to participate in this year’s forum and acknowledged the fruitful discussions. He said PNG plans to provide power for PNG border towns, including those along the PNG/Indonesian border and looked forward to engaging Indonesian companies to do the job. “My government also plans to engage Indonesian companies to build roads to connect our towns in PNG. “We also plan to build a 10,000 megawatts hydro-power station and additional power plants in the eastern part of Papua. “We will also be seeking assistance from Indonesia to develop our airline, gas and power industries. I believe the way forward is for both our countries to work together,” he said."
