Thailand: PTT To Build Two LNG Warehouses
TEXAS, April 18 (Bernama) -- PTT Public Co., Ltd. (PTT), Thailand's largest energy conglomerate, plans to construct two warehouses with total capacity of 25 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to meet rising demands in the country, Thai News Agency (TNA) reported.
Construction of the two warehouses, due to be completed in 2020, is also to meet the 20-year Power Development Plan (PDP) of the Thai government, TNA said.
Niwattumrong Boonsongpaisarn, minister at the Prime Minister's Office, told journalists while attending the 17th International Conference and Exhibition on LNG, held in Houston, Texas, that the government supports PTT to import LNG for Thailand's national energy security.
There is a need for sufficient energy with low-cost to cater to national economic development and for the people to have enough electricity for consumption, Niwattumrong said.
Charcrie Buranakanonda, vice president of PTT, said construction of the two LNG warehouses could help the country address the issue as natural gas production in Thailand would be dwindling by then.
Andy Brown, director of Shell's Upstream International Business division, said global demand for LNG is expected to double in 2025.
