Explanations or Implications of reduced volume?
#1

From a fundamental or technical viepoint any informed commentary  that anyone care to offer for the quite dramatic change in volume over the past several days?

reported short sales vs. reported total sales on the nasdaq and nyse the past three days show 6/25 38% and 29%,  6/26 38% and 25%,  6/27 an extremely low 22% and 14%....  imo, the shorts games are being watched closely.  Goes to show us what the real trading would be like without the HFT's and altos shorts trading the stock back and forth between themselves.    That's my opinion.....the sheriff finally showed up!!!

I'm no expert here, but I see it as the calm before the impending storm. Seems like there are entrenched positions on both sides, not many shares for sale and not many buyers at this price. I also believe there's a hoard of potential investors on the sidelines and they're all from Missouri -- the "Show Me" state.

To add to what Trans is saying as a possibility, I correspond with Schwab from time to time on what they are doing with lenders of IOC shares. A couple of weeks ago they dropped the rate they are paying lenders from 4% to 3% (was 7% early this year). Then last week they actually started returning shares to lenders' account due to lower demand by borrowers.

Question is whether this is due to what has been heard about the SEC requesting and getting wheelbarrows full of documentation, or is it shorts not wanting to incur borrowing costs because they feel they have beaten it down and can wait it out due to their thought that any major announcement is a ways off?

Another idea.....There's a lurking buyer out there, big enough that shorts don't want to get in front of him until they know he's out of there.  He's sucking up all the stock that comes in, has been for 2-3 days.  The word gets around among the trading desks, fwiw

Other reason, news very close.  Very light volume has a positive correlation with potential good news lurking

To the Honourable and Venerable Libtardius Maximus

I watched your YouTube beer commercial, twice, and I still don't get it. Now perhaps you understand why I respect my elder experienced comrades.

Did I just get here? Relatively speaking, yes, in 2009. So much to learn.

I am tickled by the thought that the SEC is paying closer scrutiny to the trading of IOC, but -- whatever it decides -- investor value lost is irredeemable.

With great respect and a smile, sirs.
