Notice that this potentially significant event is before the market re-opens after options expiration -- and expiration with huge open interest.

In all my several years of following IOC, I do not ever remember them announcing earnings and having the call before the opening on a Monday morning - let alone the Monday after options expiration. I agree, VS, this could be very interesting. Anyone who has sold naked March calls could get real nervous between now and then.

This is really interesting; Usually they do the release after all (including after-hours) markets have closed and do CC the next AM.
Maybe this is to be able to broadcast the propane tank flare demo and have maximum effect. It will be evening in PNG and they can light that thing up and broadcast it live via the web. I hear this time they are going to have 3 tanks buried to light and really blow people away.

Setting the date itself is pretty interesting considering the stage of drilling they're at. This could very well mean they expect to be able to give us some first indications of the top of the reservoir, but this is, of course, just my guess.
The all important question is whether they can confirm the reef that they spotted on seismics. Could they have a first few drill cuttings by next week?

Sal Illaqua today stated use Mar 5th as a base and add 7-10 days or drilling begins again best guess this week.
I agree this timing is quite interesting. Lot's of possibilities for news.
