Mgmt email response, or lack thereof
#1

In the past 6 months, I have emailed investor relations a few times.  The first 3 times, Matt responded very quickly (within 24 hours).

In the past month, I have sent the same one question email 4 times, with no response.  At first I assumed he was busy with the normal day to day tasks, holiday schedule, etc.

Now, combining this with no disclosure on stock buyback, mgmt stock buys, etc,, I am puzzled why the drop off in communication.  I know I am just one person with one question in a storm of activity that IR has to deal with everyday, guess I got spoiled by Matt's initial promptness in responding.................

BTW, maybe someone else can answer the question I sent Matt, namely, can NQ patent the technology/software behind NQ Live, have they, and if not, how hard would it be for another company to copy the technology?

I don't think being able to patent it is terribly important, and alternatives (launchers) already exist although the exact technical details differ quite a bit.

At first sight, this is similar to other home screen carrier alterations like Motoblur or HTC's Sense. However: NQ Live homescreen is user configurable NQ Live homescreen is less heavy handed in terms of changing Android code (it's more like wallpaper rather than a launcher). Other launchers often run into trouble when new versions of Android are pushed to the phone.

The way I see it is as a device to improve the user experience and increase the switching cost for (at least part) of your ecosystem, others will do similar things in a different way and perhaps one way is somewhat better than the other but I'm not sure patents would be all that important.

Have you tried calling their investor relations number to see if you can get a response? This is the Dallas one: 1-469-310-5280 . The Hong Kong/China one is +852-3975-2853

I asked a few questions a few weeks back and no one responded to me. Not sure why.

I had a similar problem. So i just called Matt. problem solved. I think the response time will vary depending on the nature of the question. I had a few questions on NQ Live. Would they be able to put a demo on youtube or youku? Basically for those questions they are keeping a relatively tight lid on answers. The product is still being rolled out and being integrated with their channel partners. As was previously noted, there are competing products already out in the market, so they have tried to keep exposure to the NQ Live to those who played with the product at the analyst day and to developers.

My suggestion, if you have specific technical questions is to give Matt a call.
