Google Fit SDK released today
#1

This will imply lot more fitness related apps on Android going forward.

Wallpapers can become mainstream with various packs like fitness, music etc...essentially what NQ is aiming for.

Doesn't it make sense for Samsung to invest in NQ live and have it preinstallled on all Samsung phones where Samsung gets a cut in the app purchase and distribution ?

Also, Samsung will potentially be able to bypass Google play this way ?

Sorry, but I do not see the correlation you're trying to make at all, it's a stretch to say the very least.

Thanks.
Which part do you see as a stretch ?
Have a look at the video from 55 seconds onwards.

Samsung is providing it preloaded and I will assume Sprint is skipping google play this way.
Samsung will have the relationship with the telcos around the world, it would make sense for them to preload the phone with wallpapers with various themes, sport, health, music, travel and make telcos and manufacturers more relevant ?

Roxron9, here are a few reasons why I consider it a stretch.

1.) Sure, wallpapers may be themed, and Google Fit SDK may be used to develop a fitness themed wallpaper, but where does this follow Samsung investing in NQ Live? I highly doubt Samsung or anyone else would invest solely because of a fitness themed wallpaper.

2.) I can't see any OEM preinstalling a fitness themed wallpaper in the first place, even those who are into fitness may be more interested in having something like music or movies as a theme, rather than fitness.

3.) I can't see any OEM preinstalling any particular theme, it's just too personal a thing as it will be on your wallpaper all the time. This would cause OEM's to have to create several different builds of the same phone model that come preinstalled with different themes, and that's just not very economically viable. It makes more sense to preload phones with universally useful applications such as antivirus software or GPS.

4.) The business model of NQ Live doesn't seem to fit fitness very well. Almost anyone who is into fitness will do their own research on things like what protein powder to use and what gym to subscribe to. What would they market on the home page that wouldn't irritate the end user? Music is completely different, because you can be informed of concerts and appearances in your area that music lovers would be interested in, the same model is not very easily applied to fitness. There just isn't anything in fitness I can see end users being interested in purchasing that they wouldn't be far more likely to research on their own time.

There are just far too many assumptions one has to make in order to come up with the conclusion that the release of a new SDK will somehow lead to a successful new wallpaper theme, which will in turn lead to a stake being acquired in NQ from another company. I don't see a fitness theme as very likely for many reasons, some of which were outlined above, but even if I found it likely that such a theme would be successful, it's still quite a stretch to take that and use it as a reason for Samsung to be interested in them.

Thanks Reg.

Fundy, that was essentially my point it is not only about Fitness and I repeated that at few places, it is about anything and everything: you preinstall few themes not just fitness related and then let the customer choose which package they want or maybe customers don't want it, have a look at the video you can get rid of the wallpaper. You require NQ live for aggregating the apps and having it available at one place.

To your points:

1. Google SDK= More fitness aware world= more apps and more ways to monetise= more OEM scratching their heads as to how to become relevant in this commoditised hardware world. Have a look at Samsung numbers,they require software to survive, hardware differentiation is incremental now and not ground breaking. Music radar is already going on Samsung smartwatch, I read NQ's good relation with Samsung there due to obvious reasons;
2. I already answered that;
3. Again, same thing: offer different wallpapers, essentially that is what Sprint was doing with sprint id but their execution was bad.
4. The fitness app has music integrated into it, it has armour collaboration, it has map your run etc....that covers lot of things and covers most of things people track. People are interested in knowing what is going around them related to fitiness, could be classes, could be yoga pass essentially you can integrate those things into the news feed. I do exercise fair bit and I will appreciate this app, unfortunately I use iphone. Lot of people around me follow various sports, and they have to unlock their phones to check scores, you can provide that on the wallpaper...

What I said is "Wallpapers can become mainstream with various packs like fitness, music etc...essentially what NQ is aiming for"

I haven't made any correlation between Google SDK and Samsung investment. All I have said is wallpapers going mainstream is a possibility and that could lead to a strategic investment or partnership with Samsung.
