FWIW ... go watch NFL Football carefree because this news is a non-event as far as IOC is concerned.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Elevation 223 m (732 ft) Location: Tavurvur is located in Papua New Guinea East New Britain, Papua New Guinea Coordinates 4°14′20″S 152°12′36″ECoordinates: 4°14′20″S 152°12′36″E Geology Type: Stratovolcano, vent of Rabaul caldera Last eruption: 2013 to 2014 (ongoing) Tavurvur is an active stratovolcano that lies near Rabaul, on the island of New Britain, in Papua New Guinea. It is a sub-vent of the Rabaul caldera[1] and lies on the eastern rim of the larger feature. An eruption of the volcano largely destroyed the nearby town of Rabaul in 1994 .... You'll see that Tavurvur is located at the extreme north east end of New Britain; ie nowhere near Port Moresby or Gulf Province.

Ok ok , the volcano eruption weakened the shale sealing the formation at WBR even though it was 100's of miles away . All one big shale seal. What else could it be ?

Personally, I wouldn't be so quick and/or sure to dismiss any volcano or seismic events in, around or near PNG. They can all change things, for better or worse. When one reads reports about areas and wells, we often read about faults, seals and many other things that are a result of past volcanic and seismic events that did change things and help to form the present structures that IOC is presently dealing with. Mountains and mountain ranges are formed by plates moving against one another. Volcanic events are influenced by seismic activity and vice versa. NG and oil basins and reservoirs are formed from such activities over many years. The event may or may not have importance to our investment. We have no way of knowing what did or what may happen as a result.

Kommon Sense .... I wonder why you, Kaliboo and Mike S IOC continue to own shares in InterOil; or maybe you don't?
It's 800 km from Tavurvur to Port Moresby. Tavurvur has been erupting for a long time. There was a measurable eruption on 7 October 2006 that made headlines. I strongly suspect that ExxonMobil, Oil Search, Santos et al made very detailed investigations of Tavurvur and other volcanic/seismic events in and around the area before they decided to spend $18 Billion to build PNG LNG. Your fear mongering is unwarranted ... Fear mongering (or scaremongering or scare tactics) is the use of fear to influence the opinions and actions of others towards some specific end. The feared object or subject is sometimes exaggerated, and the pattern of fear mongering is usually one of repetition, in order to continuously reinforce the intended effects of this tactic, sometimes in the form of a vicious circle.[

Gee, you're right Stavros, I don't know what was wrong with me, posting an interesting harmless video that may or may not have any bearing on IOC that someone (like you) might interpret as a "negative" and fear/scare mongering post.
FWIW, I am quite long and have been for a very long time. Save your labeling for someone that earns it. We really need more Pied Pipers here. |
