Rise in PPS

I do not believe that Byker's retirement and Finlayson formally installed as chairman is the reason for the increase in pps the last 2 days. Actually a strong showing when you consider the drop in oil prices and the horrible overall markets.

Anybody agree and have a reason for the improvement?

A)  IOC is a high beta oil stock and was oversold with the downdraft in energy, hence the rally

B)  Raptor is shaping up well and Bobcat and Ant 5 are looking equally prospective.  Ant 5 will spud in 4Q and we'll hear more on Wahoo by yr end.  Plus an update from the Bernstein trip is forthcoming.

C)  Byker is the last vestage of the old guard and his departure is a clearing event.. (half kidding actually)

When you say "more on Wahoo" are you suggesting any type of drilling results, or do you mean something like news on their new plan of attack with some sort of schedule?

• InterOil (NYSE:IOC) +4.4% after gaining 2.1% yesterday.
• The Australian said today IOC may be a target for Woodside Petroleum (OTCPK:WOPEF, OTCPK:WOPEY).
• Other possible targets include Ophir Energy (OTCPK:OPGYF, OTC:OPHRY) or Apache's (NYSE:APA) stake in the Kitimat LNG project in Alaska.
• October 14 looks like a possible short-term bottom in IOC.

Short term bottom at best I'd say. There is a lot of volatility in the markets yet and more chance of additional downside than up. We have only seen this oil price situation on the ST and it still could seek a bottom especially if some forecasts of a mild winter come true. Hope for a sustained polar vortex.

It's funny how when the price of oil goes up it's bad for the economy but when it goes down it is also bad for the economy.

It is nice to be travelling and only pay a little more than $3 at the pump. (Boy, I'd never have said that five years ago). It is nicer for people who have to scrape for gas money. Lots of new money circulating in the base economy today.

The  wonderful USA shale oil and gas boom which has largely caused the global oil glut and might eventually contribute to a global gas glut some day has also pumped vast sums of wealth into the bank accounts of a multitude of private citizens who own the mineral rights.  This along with the huge spends on oil rigs, services and equipment have been one of the major engines keeping this economy afloat.  So what is good for the oil business is good for America.  Excessive prices are bad and so are low prices.  Technology has proven it can easily provide ample HC supply for perhaps the next 100 years.  That could mean low prices will be squeezing the industry for years to come.
