Many thanks to a couple of friends, Cowboy and haroco who both sent me information where I could find the log for Raptor-1. I am unable to respond to Cowboy so I hope he will see what I post here.

Unfortunately the log does not show any headings or scales so it is not possible for me to tell exactly what we are looking at. I thought that I might find an old IOC log that had headings that I might be able to transpose to this log and get some idea about what it means but all of the logs I can find do not have headings or scales. So I will try my best to tell you what I think some parts of the log means.
The left two curves are marked GR (Gamma Ray) and Res. (Resistivity). About all this tells us is that the formation changed from shale to limestone between 3,800 and 4,000 meters. The resistivity curve is influenced by both the more resistive limestone and the hydrocarbons that the limestone contains. We already knew we had limestone with gas and condensate in it. What we need to know is the porosity. The other curves are probably some version of neutron, density and sonic logs that will give a porosity reading. These type logs are influenced in different ways depending on what the porosity is and what the porosity contains. I don't think I will be able to come up with an actual ture porosity reading from this but it does look like it may be fairly similar throughout. Looks like the best gas zone may be between about 3,820 - 3,835 meters, next best zone is at about 3,840 - 3,855 meters. After that is drops off a little as we go on down to 3,980 meters but really not too much difference.
I am guessing about some of the following with no heading on the log.
The second track from the left where it shows little blue squares and some darker blue solid is telling us what the formation is. The little blue squares is percent limestone. The solid dark blue is showing something like shale content. So where it is all limestone is the better formation for containing hydrocarbons. I do not see any indication of dolomite which they have been showing as green in the past. They have marked a dotted line across the log at 3,880 meters which is the bottom of the best solid limestone streak which is about 4 meters thick. This is also the area where we see the highest resistivity.
In the first track on the left under GR one of these curves is the gamma ray and I think the blue curve is probably a hole caliper log. We know the hole size is 6" so the first line is probably 6" and each line to the right is probably 1" larger so you can see the hole is washed out a little in spots. These spots of larger hole could be fractured limestone falling into the hole.
On the fourth track over from the left you see two curves, one is black and one is blue. These are probably porosity logs of some kind . You will see a lot of very thin spikes to the right on both of these logs. I believe these are very thin high porosity streaks. My guess is that these streaks of high porosity range from 15 - 20% and the thicker zones between these high porosity streaks will average between 8 and 12 %. This is all purely a guess. We have about 10 - 12 of these high porosity streaks scattered throughout the 200 meter zone. What they have marked as "Gas Peaks" on the next track to the right shows that the gas peaks line up with these thin high porosity streaks. So we may have a lot of pretty good porosity streaks separated by some thicker lower porosity streaks. Maybe the distribution will allow the better porosity streaks to drain the gas from the lower porosity zones. Can't put a number on the porosity without a scale at the top of the log, so once again the numbers I have given you are just a guess. If the porosity is as good as I have guessed it will be in the range we have seen at Antelope and better than we saw at Triceratops.
In the past IOC has used a lower porosity cut off of 2 - 3% to determine net pay. I believe a very large percentage of the 200 meter pay zone is above 3% and I would not be surprised to see the net pay in the 70 -90 percent range.
I think it is gas all the way to the bottom of the zone as I do not see any indication of water. The resistivity stays high all the way down to 3,980 meters and the last 20 meters from 3,980 - 4,000 meters may a be transition zone where the formation is changing back over from limestone to shale.
A lot of this is speculation on my part but I guess it is about the best an old obsolete engineer can do with the limited information available. For full disclosure the steroids the Doctor put me on may be affecting my thinking so don’t sell the farm based on this. Let’s wait and see what the company has to say, eventually....

Very interesting, thanks for all the work, proving (needless to say) that you're anything but obsolete.
Were there any expectations of dolomite here before drilling?

IOC has been saying Raptor-1 is 12 km West of Elk/Antelope so these PRE numbers may be off. I think they are still using the old map previously published by IOC because the depth marked on the structure map does not agree with the actual drill depth. In any case the orange color is what they think is filled with gas. If we do not have water in the bottom of Raptor-1 this orange shade will be larger in the down dip direction until we find the gas/water contact.

Pet- Thanks for your fine post. When,in the future,more Raptor wells are drilled in the SE direction,this field has the potential to be BIG. If those lines on page 22 turn out to be correct,my A-fib heart might skip a few more beats! Ha. Have a good day.

I realize there would be little certainty to this, but assuming gas and this porosity throughout a 9.5 km long formation of this shape, do you have any idea of a ball park range for the amount of resource there could be? Does it look like PRE has at least a little basis for talking about a potential 10 Tcf resource?
Maybe Total at some point will be interested in carrying a well in Raptor in PRL 15 after further seismic and drilling in Raptor outside PRL 15! I think it's sad that so far we are getting more information indirectly through a 12% partner than from our own IOC. I thought it interesting and perhaps ironic that PRE is getting the world's first floating LNG facility (FLNG). See slide 14.

I think the seismic picture on page 22 may have its directions mislabeled, with NW and SE reversed. Notice both pictures have the same scale although one is in m the other in km. Really exciting no water was found. With the base of the carbonate dropping to the SE I suppose there still exists plenty of room for liquids of the good type to gather.

Both the PRE and IOC maps show the Raptor "Prospect" extends from Raptor-1 to the southeast all the way into PRL-15. This Prospect could contain multiple fault blocks and have different gas water contacts. This one discovery may or may not extend all the way to PRL 15. The overall prospect could very well contain 10 TCF if it extends 12 + KM to the southeast and has porosity similar to Antelope. IOC shows some of the structure higher than Raptor-1 and some of the zone much thicker than it is at Raptor-1. The zone should be at higher pressure that Antelope since it is deeper although we have not been given that information. So equal porosity would contain more gas at Raptor than Antelope.

Getit - If PRE owned an interest in Bobcat like they do at Raptor, we would probably be seeing the logs at Bobcat ! As you say"it's sad that so far.....................our own IOC". So true. |
