Although extremely disturbing, it isn’t anywhere near surprising. As we argued before, it’s a military regime (with Mubarak largely an expendable figurehead), when cornered, they tend to do this kind of stuff..

Since Egypt is essentially a military dictatorship, we were fearing all along that the most likely outcome would be that sooner or later the military would just sacrifice Mubarak and try to get on with business as usual. We’re not alone..
