Per Schwab's security lending desk shorts borrowing again
#11

Sigh.

  1. I wanted Bonk here because I want an obviously intelligent person to look at every possible way where our investment thesis might be wrong or weak, whatever his motives. I know the long argument for IOC, I think it doesn't hurt to see, or engage in discussions about, counterarguments from people who are several cuts above the Minkows and Gefverts. I hope you know what a confirmation bias is.
  2. I don't see what this has to do with the 'discussion' at hand?
  3. A short position is borrowing shares and selling them with the aim of buying them back cheaper. The fact that you can recreate short positions with options, or whether you call some of these short positions as well is an interesting semantic discussion, but completely besides the point I am making
  4. That point is, that if you ascribe something to a person, especially one that can't defend himself here, you have to provide a link to where he said that. If not, this forum can quickly degenerate into a free for all where people ascribe all sorts of things to any person they feel fit. Not my kind of forum.
  5. To his credit, Bonk usually abides by that. To my irritation, you don't, and neither did Eric, with me almost invariably on the receiving end of that. Which is why it might seem curious I defend him on this, but it's simply a matter of principle. I want this to be a better forum than Yahoo.

You have yet to provide a link to Eric saying he shorted (whatever that means) when IOC was at $10.

In this case you are living in your own world. There are three ways to short a stock and you only use one . When one states they are short a stock that has 3 possibilities. When I state Eric was short IOC that has 3 ways he can do that. You chose to focus on one. You chose that definition of the 3 that are available. Everyone else would realize that there are 3 ways to short a stock and use a broader definition. If you sell a call you are short the underlying collateral not long shares. Thats called being short in the brokerage business. A business you have never worked in ever.So for you to define terms for a business you have never worked in seems a bit unusual. So when someone says they are short the next question is how are you short?? Because their are three ways to execute that idea. One can't focus on just one definition. And that's what you are doing. Ask how are you short??I never defined the term .
Eric commented to my post where I stated I bought long calls when IOC was under $10 and he stated he was short those calls. I bought 500 calls out 6 months and IOC recovered to $25. You can find the post. You were in IOC in those days and on the yahoo board.Go get em

["You can find the post. You were in IOC in those days and on the yahoo board.Go get em"]

You STILL haven't got my point. IT IS YOU WHO HAS TO DIG UP THESE POSTS. Not me.

Otherwise, we only have your word for it that they even exist, and what that's worth is for anyone to decide. More importantly if we go this way, soon everybody can ascribe anything to anybody here. That might be an environment in which you feel comfortable, I don't.

STP, I agree with point one.  As for JFT, it may be best to,let it rest at this point, I am not a referee but....

Well, I happen to think that a forum where people can ascribe anything to anybody without putting up even a modicum of evidence (and without them having a chance to defend themselves) is actually way more for children. But perhaps that's just me.

But wait until it happens to you...

No, JFT is acting like a child. Actually, more like a dog, its teeth gripping a toy or a stick, shaking its head side-to-side and growling, wanting you to pull this particular item from its mouth so it can grip it's teeth even harder, and for as long as this goes on completely uninterested in whether any other items exist in the world.  STP is acting like an adult trying to engage in discourse with such a creature. Best to give it up. Then JFT will probably believe he has won the exchange but there isn't much one can do about that.

Have I broken any rules?

Wow, go away a couple of days and look what's happening.. JFT, I hate to say it but Eric has hit more of his calls than you ever have regarding IOC. I have to wonder with all of your connections how you can always miss the mark by so much? It really gave me a chuckle to see the quote under your name, "I hear" it really kills me. Please don't lecture or call me short, I have been around years before you ever even heard of this stock. I am longer and stronger than I have ever been, but like everyone else, I am ready for this deal to close and to open the next chapter in the IOC story. It's funny I bought in here sub $2, said I would sell when I could pay off my house with it, changed that to sell @$100 (wish I had done that one) but instead I just seem to accumulate a little more IOC all the time. My broker says I am nuts, I hope to prove her wrong soon.
