Well, the S&P still up 0.28%, nothing like to cause such a stampede in NQ, I don't think so.

There was at least one rumor of a new MW report, I think it's just that.

Buyout or not the company is fundamentally undervalued, provided it's clean, which until today seemed very very obvious. Today's trading certainly confused things.

Yes, that's possible, although I'm not sure buyout rumors were such big part of the rise, difficult to know, that..

I am guessing the following- the shorts know the audit is coming out soon, they assume it will be a clean report.  they needed an opportunity (one more time) to cover their short positions before the audit rally.  One of them called a buddy at bloomberg or whereever and called in a favor, asked them to spread a rumor about a new MW report......JMO

Yes, something along those lines. The one thing I fear is a leak from the audit (needless to say, only if followed by a negative price reaction), but I think we can rule that out by now.

So the issue becomes, does MW have any more firepower? For now it's only a rumor that there is a new report, and based on the 'quality' of their previous report, I don't think we have much to fear from that. The rumor probably having a bigger impact than any real report.
