This week has been up 17% before attack coming. I bet many people has stop out all trigger by this. Amazing it is still 5% upper for the week. If there is a negative news, it should be out to public now. I am still holding my shares and long term call options with short term put options as protection. Nothing for me to worry about.

Theory: Is it possible that a couple of related big funds manipulated the market (stop limits) by selling a portion of its position to bring the price down to trigger those limits, and bought those shares back at a lower price? Maybe that explains the huge drop and yet quick recovery within such a short time frame. The high volume within such a short time seems to suggest very few players.

I wrote this yesterday afternoon on the Yahoo board... answering the question in quotes.

" Why would anyone with half a brain still short this stock"
Because they have hedged their positions. Getting all worked up over the short interest is, in my mind, foolish. The first short attack to take out trailing stops will make a lot on this board wonder what the "NEWS" is only to find out they lost their positions... The people who have been here a year know exactly what I'm talking about. This is when we were buying the dips.
The last time the stock was $25 there was a 9 million short position. People need to keep some power dry for a drop day when the stock does exactly the opposite of what it has done this week. Then buy with both hands on the dip the shorts created to try to gather stock . All IMO Less

Of course anything can happen, i tend to think that this is just more rumor mongering/short attack.

1. No outsized put action to confirm price drop.

2. if there were real bad news, price action follows selling waves, successive leg down w/ bigger volume spikes(like last oct. MW attack). We only had one down leg, albeit a scary one, but no follow thru in selling, lots of trading back and forth, but no secondary volume selling

3. the stock has attracted a ton of short term money in the last few trading days, sentiment overly euphoric. lots of "holding till $30", "mortgaging my house to buy more NQ", u know these ppl are first to sell on any downtick. A washout is healthy in my opinion.

Hopefully, we'll recover to $21 by next Friday.

js253,

Yours is the best explanation so far. I completely agree.

If there is a real negative news related to auditing, stock price should be off a lot more. But it does a nice recovery although it is still off by 8.5%. Prepare for the jump up soon.

There are chatters that their was a sell order for nasdaq future and someone by fault sold NQ. That lead to panic selling.

I'd die laughing if that were the case.

That said I think it's just an institution jumping with gains. No need to take risk of audit news or getting out when short-term folks are too.

Least that's what I hope.
